X Factor’s loss is now The Voice’s gain as Sheena McHugh wowed the coaches at the Blind Auditions with her cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home”, scoring four turns from all of the coaches. With the pick of the lot Sheena choose Will.i.am to mentor her in The Voice.

Advice from Singing Competition Winner – Richard Jones

Would you advise unsigned artists to enter the Open Mic UK singing competition?

I would definitely recommend the show to an unsigned artist! Even if you are not particularly experienced because it gives you valuable experience singing infront of large crowds and a panel of people who could potentially push your career further.

Did you enjoy your Open Mic UK experience?

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience….it was all very exciting!

Singing Competition Winner – Richard Jones

What in your opinion is the best part of the Open Mic UK singing competition?

I think the best part is the experience of playing on stage in front of large crowds.

Did you find the industry judges’ feedback helpful?

Yes, the feedback was quite helpful. As a songwriter, it helped because I was given feedback on the songs as well as the performances.

How did it feel to be crowned Open Mic UK Winner?

I was over the moon to be announced winner! Especially considering I’d only been writing music for around 12 months!

What would be your advice for success at Open Mic UK?

I think to be successful you need to focus on your originality. Just be creative! Personally, I had a large collection of original songs before I entered the competition which I really feel helped prove my originality and artistry and was probably a bit factor in my success in this competition!

What have you been up to since winning the singing competition?

Since winning the competition I have been working hard preparing my songs ready for when my EP is recorded later in the year! I’m also really quite busy with gigs across the country and I have some cool support gigs coming up! Winning the competition has given me some great exposure and I’m excited for what the future has to hold!

Emmanuel Nwamadi stars on BBC’s The Voice

Emmanuel Nwamadi on The Voice.

Previous Open Mic UK contestant Emmanuel Nwamadi has impressed coaches on the BBC’s The Voice, making it through to the live quarter-finals.

Check out the following link for more information on Emmanuel Nwamadi: http://www.openmicuk.co.uk/News/emmanuel-nwamadi

EMMANUEL NWAMADI – THE VOICE

Emmanuel Nwamadi took part in Open Mic UK in 2013 within the group Vintage Soul. Their original song named “Six” impressed the music industry judges at the Regional Final in Camden and took them through to the Area Finals.

Watch Emmanuel Nwamadi’s Open Mic UK Regional Final performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hH739vb1zUA

The Open Mic UK judges’ feedback from Vintage Souls’ Area Final performance was; “You were lovely on the ear and the boy’s musical work was seemingly effortless and built a strong sound. However, the musicians felt like they were support as opposed to being a group. You all need to perform more.”

SUCCESS FOR EMMANUEL NWAMADI

23-year-old Emmanuel Nwamadi worked his vocal magic at The Voice’s Blind Auditions performing a soulful version of Sade’s “Sweetest Taboo”. He secured a place in the Battles with Ricky Wilson who turned his chair for him.

Emmanuel Nwamadi has now made it through to the live quarter-finals of The Voice after securing a spot in coach Ricky Wilson’s final three. Emmanuel impressed Ricky Wilson with his own rendition of Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” at the Battles.

Ricky Wilson said: “We’re not looking for something that’s already represented in the charts or on the radio, I’m looking for the next thing and I think Emmanuel’s got something interesting and unique. He’s a man of few words and he’s a man of very deep words when he does speak. I think he could sing pretty much anything and put his twist on it.”

At the live quarter-finals it will be down to the public vote to keep Emmanuel Nwamadi in the competition. We look forward to seeing him in the live shows and wish him the best of luck!
